Your safari begins with a pick-up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi). After a brief introduction, you’ll embark on a scenic 5 to 6-hour drive north to Samburu National Reserve, located in the arid northern region of Kenya. Along the way, you’ll pass through small villages, savannah, and impressive landscapes as your guide explains the history and culture of the area.
Upon arrival in Samburu, check in to your accommodation, Samburu Intrepid Camp. These lodges provide excellent facilities, with spacious rooms or tents, modern amenities, and stunning views over the surrounding wilderness.
After lunch and a chance to freshen up, head out for your first afternoon game drive. Samburu is home to the Samburu Special Five, which includes the Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope, Somali ostrich, Beshadu’s giraffe, and the Oryx. You will also encounter lions, cheetahs, leopards, and a variety of other wildlife in the striking landscape that includes rocky hills, riverine forests, and open plains.
Return to your lodge for dinner and relax after your exciting day of safari. Enjoy the sounds of the African wilderness around you as you unwind for the night.
After breakfast, you will begin your full-day game drive in Samburu National Reserve. Your guide will take you through different areas of the park, ensuring you get the best opportunities to spot Samburu’s famous wildlife. The early morning is a prime time for predator sightings, so you’ll likely encounter lions, hyenas, and cheetahs as they search for food before the heat of the day sets in.
Visit the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs through the reserve, providing a water source for many animals. Here, you may encounter elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelopes coming to drink, as well as crocodiles lounging in the sun.
For lunch, you can either return to your lodge or enjoy a picnic in the reserve, surrounded by the beauty of Samburu’s landscapes. The afternoon will be filled with more game viewing, where you may encounter zebras, gazelles, and various bird species, such as the Lilac-breasted Roller and African Fish Eagle. In the evening, head back to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening. If available, consider an optional culture
After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and drive south to Lake Nakuru National Park, a journey that takes about 5 to 6 hours. Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya’s most famous parks, known for its flamingos and wide variety of wildlife. As you drive, you will pass through scenic landscapes, including the Great Rift Valley.
Upon arrival, check in at your lodge or camp, Lake Nakuru Lodge, offering comfortable accommodation with great views of the lake.
After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, which is renowned for its large populations of flamingos, particularly during the wet season, when the lake’s shores are covered in vibrant pink hues. The park is also home to white rhinos, black rhinos, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, and leopards.
You will also visit the Baboon Cliff for spectacular panoramic views over the park and the lake below. The park’s combination of lakeside habitat and acacia woodlands is perfect for spotting a variety of bird species, such as the African Fish Eagle and Marabou Stork.
After breakfast, you’ll check out and begin your journey to Amboseli National Park, a 5-hour drive south. Along the way, you’ll pass through beautiful highland scenery, farmlands, and small towns before entering the Amboseli ecosystem at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak.
Upon arrival, you will check in at Sentrim Amboseli Camp, which offers excellent views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding park.
After lunch, you’ll head out for your first afternoon game drive in Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most iconic parks, known for its stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and large herds of African elephants. In addition to elephants, you may encounter lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and buffaloes, as well as a variety of bird species. Amboseli is also famous for its wetlands, which attract a wide range of animals and birds. As the sun sets, you’ll return to your lodge for dinner and enjoy the evening with a view of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro.
After breakfast, you’ll embark on a full-day game drive in Amboseli National Park. The park is divided into several habitats, including wetlands, savannah, and forests, offering a wide range of wildlife and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Your guide will take you through the park’s diverse regions to ensure you have the best chance of spotting a wide variety of animals.
The park’s swamps are particularly known for elephant herds and buffaloes, and you’ll likely see lion prides and cheetahs hunting in the open savannah. Amboseli’s wetlands are home to a rich diversity of birdlife, from flamingos to herons and marabou storks.
After a bush picnic lunch, you will continue exploring the park, keeping an eye out for any wildlife you may have missed during the morning drive.
In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening in the heart of Amboseli. You may wish to enjoy a sundowner on the lodge’s terrace with views of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the background
Morning Game Drive and Return to Nairobi
On your final day, you’ll wake up early for one last morning game drive in Amboseli National Park. The early morning is an excellent time to spot predators, such as lions and cheetahs, as well as large herds of elephants in the cool morning air.
After the game drive, return to your lodge for breakfast before checking out. You will begin your drive back to Nairobi, a journey of about 4 to 5 hours. Along the way, you can enjoy the scenic views of the Great Rift Valley.
Upon arrival in Nairobi in the late afternoon, your guide will drop you off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight or at your preferred hotel in Nairobi, bringing your unforgettable 6-day safari to a close.
